Raymond Darling was a part of another state championship team at Gordo. In 1985, Darling, a junior, became part of Gordo’s third state championship team. Darling went on to play for the University of West Alabama, then called Livingston University. After finishing his collegiate career, Darling moved back to Gordo, where he lives today. Raymond says the football culture is as strong as ever in Gordo: It’s one of the reasons he decided to return to his hometown. Raymond’s son, Joshua, will start playing for the middle school team next year.
