James Fair has been witness to nearly all Gordo’s football history. At 84 years old, Fair – like many in Gordo – has lived in his hometown all his life, barring the time he spent as a soldier during the Korean War. Fair has always been a staunch supporter of his local team. He proved that in 1996, when as the president of the Gordo Lions Club, he spearheaded a $45,000 community project to build handicap parking near the field so people who had difficulty walking could enjoy the game from the comfort of their cars. Still, Fair didn’t have too much trouble raising money: businesses and individual citizens alike both poured support into the project.
